Advocacy for Inclusion – Incorporating People with Disabilities ACT (AFI) welcomes the announcement that Dylan Alcott OAM is Australian of the Year 2022.

Nicolas Lawler, CEO of AFI, said ‘After the last two years of uncertainty for people with disability in Australia, with the pandemic and the ongoing issues with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), having Dylan as the Australian of the year will put disability at the forefront.’

‘We hope that 2022 will ensure that people with disability stop being an afterthought and bring on meaningful co-design for issues, not only around inclusion, employment and the NDIS but all aspects of life including the ongoing pandemic response.’

‘We need to make sure the government meets its targets in the National Disability Strategy and upholds its obligations under the Convention of the Rights of People with Disability (CRPD).’

‘Congratulations, Dylan, what a wonderful achievement. We look forward to working with you to continue to promote the rights and voices of people with disability.’
