Welcoming Community Program

Join us in creating a space to connect, share and grow!

Advocacy for Inclusion has launched our Welcoming Community Program – a peer-led initiative designed for older people with disability to build new connections, grow confidence and improve self-advocacy skills.

❓Participants of the program will determine the topics explored by the groups. These may include:

  • Becoming a self-advocate
  • Finding inclusive and accessible opportunities
  • Exploring a new hobby or interest
  • Becoming a peer supporter or community leader

🧩Structure: The in-person program will run over 6 months, the online program will run over 3 months, with 1.5-2 hour sessions fortnightly.

📍Location: Two programs will run concurrently, delivered both in-person (Salthouse Community Centre in Braddon) and online (open to anyone in Australia).

⏱️When:

  • In-person: starting 26 March 2026, running for 6 months
  • Online: starting July 2026, running for 3 months

📝 Eligibility Criteria: Open to anyone who identifies as having a disability, with preference given to older people, people not on the NDIS and people who are socially isolated.

💰Cost: This is a free program with all resources included.
