The ACT Disability Directed Advocacy Caucus has welcomed today’s Legislative Assembly debate on disability reforms and the passage of a motion requiring six-monthly progress updates to the Assembly. The Caucus, representing Advocacy for Inclusion ACT, Women with Disabilities ACT, and ACT Down Syndrome & Intellectual Disability, acknowledges government outreach efforts while highlighting the urgent need for locally responsive services as some Canberrans with disability face significant NDIS service cuts and plan reductions.
The Caucus stresses that foundational supports must accelerate rapidly to ensure people are not left behind during NDIS transitions, calling for rights-based, person-centred services designed in genuine partnership with people with disability. The Caucus raises concerns about the Thriving Kids program development and implementation, and calls for better federal-state consultation, emphasising the need for an orderly reform process where changes align with the timing and scope of new support systems.
