Merger of Advocacy for Inclusion and People with Disabilities ACT

Published on March 26, 2021

We are pleased to announce that effective 24 March 2021, Advocacy for Inclusion (AFI) has commenced an auspice agreement with People with Disabilities ACT (PWDACT). Over the next few months both organisations plan to merge, forming a new organisation. This is a merger of two highly compatible organisations holding similar values and philosophies and have frequently collaborated.

The merger will build on AFI’s and PDWACT’s experience and expertise by creating a comprehensive infrastructure to build a more robust organisation for the future.

A vital element of the merger, endorsed by the ACT Government, is a commitment for the new organisation to continue the systemic advocacy activities of PWDACT. While we have spent some time progressing the merger’s legal and regulatory requirements, the joint organisation plans to re-start PWDACT activities in April 2021.

AFI has been trusted in leadership to speak on ACT local disability issues on a national and international systemic platform. We, therefore, believe that this merger will place the new organisation in a much stronger position to be an effective advocacy force in the ACT.

The new organisation will continue to ensure transparency and cross-information sharing. The interests of the ACT disability community are at our heart and continue to be represented at the highest standard. Over the next few months, you will begin to see the transition to our new organisation and branding. Our focus is making sure that we work collaboratively with you during this transition period. Please feel free to contact us through your existing channels should you have any questions.
