AFI have made a submission to the consultation draft of the Disability Inclusion Bill 2023 being put forward by Suzanne Orr MLA, Member for Yerrabi. Our submission welcomes the opportunity presented by the Bill to create an ongoing framework and requirement for Disability Inclusion Strategies and Action Plans. We say it goes some way to supporting recommendations from the recent Royal Commission report for State and Territory frameworks which support the implementation of the CRPD. The Bill also seeks to require that Governments maintain Disability Advisory Councils and we have welcomed this while suggesting an amendment which would recognise and acknowledge the role of Disabled Peoples Organisations.
